Role: Senior Mechanical Engineer
Location: Manchester (Hybrid)
Pay: £50 - £55 per hour - Inside IR35 (Depending on experience)
Duration: 6 months+ (Likely extension to 12 Months)

My client, a leading consultancy covering the full range of MEICA design services within the water industry are currently looking for a lead Mechanical Design Engineer with water industry or utilities experience to join their team in the Manchester office to work on MEICA design projects nationwide with a  range of clients.
 
Candidates can expect to work on a variety of projects across the country, with hundreds of millions of pounds worth of work secured and more in the pipeline for the AMP7 period running until 2025 as well as some water maintenance systems for a range of additional clients e.g. the coal authority.
 
Candidates can come from a clean or waste water background, as this role may encompass both. We cannot unfortunately consider applicants without a previous appointment in the water/wastewater sector.
 
The role will be hybrid meaning you will only need to attend the office on average twice a week, so you must be able to commute to the design hub in Manchester.
 
Responsibilities:
·Ascertaining Clients requirements either through reference to their specification documents or more likely through visiting sites with their nominated personnel. A key requirement is the ability to determine the actual operational requirement and propose appropriate solutions.
·Working alongside the Design Manager/senior designer (team lead) and where applicable the Project Manager to ensure scheme designs are value engineered and adhere to client specifications whilst retaining appropriate levels of operational security and full compliance with all relevant Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.
·To promote innovation and challenge parties involved to ensure cost effectiveness in all design activities.
·To provide outline and detailed engineering from inception to completion of schemes utilising our design partners, individual knowledge, site installation and construction personnel.
·To closely coordinate design production between the companies in house design teams, external design companies, our suppliers and subcontractors and where applicable our clients designers.
·To ensure all design work is completed to agreed programmes, financial budgets and KPI's.
·Liaison with client's engineering staff or where applicable their design consultants to ensure designs are approved In accordance with the timescales stipulated within the contract.
·Attend internal and external design reviews and where applicable progress meetings
 
Skills and experience:
·An industry applicable B.Eng or equivalent
·Water experience with a contractor or consultancy.
·Experience and understanding of water and sewage treatment processes
·Commercial and contractual awareness
·Working knowledge of Microsoft packages
·Self motivation
·Be able to organise yourself and others workload
·Be proactive in your approach
·An excellent communicator
·A high level of diplomacy and customer focused
