Job description
This is an outstanding opportunity to join a leading consultancy in Nottinghamshire as a Senior Highway Maintenance Engineer. The role involves leading a team of Highway Engineers delivering highway and civil engineering construction and maintenance design services, which enhance and maintain the road network.
What you will be doing:
·Lead the delivery of the capital highway maintenance programme, managing external contractors, ensuring that services and projects are delivered on time and to budget, and meeting internal and external client and stakeholder requirements.
·Lead the evaluation and authorisation of externally designed engineering schemes on behalf of internal and external clients to ensure the highway asset meets regional and national design specifications and safety standards.
·Monitor and control expenditure and take action to correct variances in team's projects and across work programmes (design fee income, works costs, and other expenditure and income) so that they are delivered to the Client's expectations.
·Manage, coach and develop a team of technical staff engaged in all aspects of service area to enable individuals to achieve their potential and deliver effective business results.
·Hold team members to account to comply with internal and external standards of statutory responsibilities, duties, policies and procedures to ensure standards are met to maintain a consistent and high-quality service.
·Lead and support Health and Safety management across the service ensuring that health and safety legislation, policy and best practice are fully adhered to and carry out the duties of the Principal Designer to comply with the Construction Design and Management Regulations to support the safe delivery of projects on site.
·Collaborate across the company to provide support for the delivery of services as workload and the organisation dictates.
What you need to know:
·Degree in Civil Engineering or related subject with relevant post-qualification experience; or equivalent knowledge gained through practical experience in a civil engineering design or construction environment.
·Detailed knowledge of the principles and practice of effective project management and in the use of quality systems or preparing and controlling programmes of work.
·Detailed knowledge of current highway and civil engineering design standards, contracts, and procedures.
·Detailed knowledge of health and safety, technical, traffic management and other legislation and good practice appropriate to highway construction and maintenance activities.
·Detailed knowledge of specialist computer applications used to support highway construction and maintenance activities including CAD, drainage design and/or Safety Barrier design software packages and MS office.
·Experience in financial monitoring and control across a range of projects.
·Proven ability to plan, make decisions and solve problems to react to project outcomes in a busy design office environment.
·A high level of personal drive and commitment to excellent customer care and the ability to set an example to other staff.
·Full UK driving licence.
