Job description

To assist in the leadership and delivery of bridge and highway structures capital projects, inspection regimes, and maintenance programmes from initial scoping through to implementation and ongoing asset management. This includes applying advanced technical knowledge, statutory requirements, and established asset management principles while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary highways service.
 
The main duties of the Senior Structures Engineer is:
·To lead and manage the delivery of a varied portfolio of highway structures projects and planned maintenance programmes, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
·To oversee and undertake inspections, structural assessments, and investigations in accordance with current legislation, codes of practice, and technical standards.
·To take responsibility for the strategic management of highway structure assets, ensuring compliance with statutory obligations, structural integrity, and long-term durability.
·To provide specialist technical advice and recommendations relating to structural safety, asset condition, and investment priorities.
 
The Senior Structures Engineer needs:
·Demonstrable experience in carrying out inspections, evaluations, and ongoing management of highway and bridge structures
·Effective leadership and programme management capability, with experience progressing multiple projects simultaneously at different phases of delivery
·Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the confidence to liaise, advise, and influence a diverse audience
·Proven ability to analyse technical information, make informed decisions, and resolve complex issues within challenging operational environments
 
This role requires an office presence at a minimum of 2-3 days per week.
