Job description

Do you have a passion for innovative transport solutions that serve the needs of our communities? Are you up to the challenges we face to balance the social benefits roads provide with our commitments to reducing our impact on our environment? Do you want to become part of a close knit and ambitions group in Birmingham? Then come join my clients' team.
They are currently recruiting for a Principal Transport Planner to join their reputable Transport Planning team in Birmingham. The office is just a stroll away from Birmingham New Street. This is a great opportunity to join their Transport team and be part of their ambitious plans for growth, being a key part of delivering projects at varying scales for a wide variety of clients, primarily in the West Midlands, but also further afield across the UK.
People are at the heart of everything they do; the clients they work with, the communities they create and their colleagues. They create opportunities for the development of staff and are leaders in their field for the investment in staff development, apprentice programmes, STEM initiatives, and the progression of future business leaders.
They can provide the opportunity to work on a range of projects, whether looking at site feasibility and Local Plan promotion or supporting clients with planning applications and discharge of conditions. Locally, their team has advised on key city centre regeneration schemes including Paradise, Birmingham, creating new communities of 100 to 5,000 homes, to strategic employment sites such as Symmetry Park, Rugby and Peterborough Gateway, prepared the town centre movement strategy for Shrewsbury and helped Universities grow and expand, such as UCB and BCU.
You will work amongst a team of like-minded transport professionals and will oversee all aspects of projects from inception to completion. An important part of your role will be to help mentor and guide junior colleagues to help you and the team with the effective delivery of high-quality transport assessments, travel plans, transport modelling and environmental assessments. You will also help with developing client relationships and support the delivery of a wide range of regional and national projects, contributing towards business planning and work winning that delivers future growth ambitions.
About You
The company approaches every project as a partnership, integrity guides what they do and you will have experience of mentoring junior staff and managing projects (budget control, fee letters, invoicing etc.) reflecting company values. Although not essential it would be beneficial for you to have good knowledge of the local market and transport context of this area.
They bring imagination and determination to every challenge and your experience of working with developer and local authority clients across a range of sectors (such as residential, commercial, infrastructure) will be important as well as a sound background knowledge in the planning system.
A degree in transportation/town planning, geography, economics or similar is important and ideally you would be working towards chartership. You will have demonstrable experience in leading others in delivering transport planning solutions. You will have experience dealing directly with clients, a collaborative attitude and the ability to present complex projects and concepts to fellow professionals, and internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
