Job description

My client is currently seeking a Principal to Associate level Transport Planner to join their reputable Reading Transport team. This is a great opportunity to join a busy group with a strong forward workload and an established track record.
The office is just a short walk from Reading Station. Here, they have a large team of Transport Planners that collaborate with a wide variety of other disciplines to deliver effective solutions to their clients.
Projects include a wide range of public and private sector schemes that include significant development, infrastructure and regeneration projects from small scale local schemes to larger national frameworks.
On a day-to-day basis, you will work amongst a team of experienced transport professionals and will oversee all aspects of projects from inception to completion. Your task will be to lead the team, develop client relationships and support the delivery of a wide range of regional and national projects. You will mentor and guide more junior colleagues in the effective delivery of high-quality Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, transport modelling and Environmental Assessments, with opportunity to be involved in a wide range of projects, from site identification/screening through to delivery, including site promotion for Local Plans, planning applications, as well as, area wide studies, strategies, plans, option development and appraisal and business cases.
Important to your success will be your contribution to business planning for the local team and region, working with Directors and senior colleagues to identify the future direction that the team should be pursuing. You will identify and execute plans to diversify the client base, win new work and ensure that the practice is at the forefront of consultants in the area.

About You
You'll be degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Transport Planning, Geography or similar, and ideally you will be Chartered (or en route to Chartership) You will have demonstrable experience in leading a successful team in delivering transport planning solutions. You will have a strong client facing ethos, a can-do attitude and the ability to present complex projects and concepts to fellow professionals, and internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
You will have experience of mentoring junior staff and managing projects (budget control, fee letters, invoicing etc.). You will have good knowledge of the local market and experience in developing and securing new business opportunities.
You will have a sound technical background, being able to prepare or review junction assessments using industry standard software such as Junctions 10, LinSig and TRANSYT. An appreciation of strategic and/or microsimulation modelling and how these can be used to support public and private sector clients would be beneficial.
Your experience of working with developer and local authority clients across a range of sectors (such as residential, commercial, infrastructure) will be important.
