Principal Engineer
 
The Principal Engineer will join client based in Bristol.
 
The Principal Engineer is responsible for the infrastructure of the City Docks is correctly maintained. To Provide professional & practical expertise and strategic direction to all engineering & dredging matters within the city Docks.
 
 
·Undertake the duties of Principal Engineer to ensure the effective functioning of Docks machinery, equipment and infrastructure ensuring, as Harbour Authority, the clients legal obligations are met in respect of all Harbour Acts, Orders & Byelaws
·Be accountable for, control and define tasks duties and work programmes for staff and contractors under your control to ensure the above. Organise systematic inspection, repair, servicing and maintenance of the dock installations and bridges to ensure safe and reliable operation and ensure that any breakdowns become operations with a minimum of delay.
·Undertake Health & Safety responsibilities for the City Docks team by researching and applying current legislative requirements on the risk assessments, COSHH assessments, safe working practices, systems of work, safety training and record keeping. Establish, review and maintain a library of instructions, manuals and safety audit systems and procedures pertinent to engineering, swing bridge and dredging matters, and ensure these are tested, inspected and updated as required.
·Plan, recruit, select and induct new recruits, and provide existing staff with CPD opportunities and performance reviews. Responsibilities to include creation and editing of job specs, effective and cost-efficient team growth and presenting proposed staff structures to senior management.
·To provide senior council staff with accurate and detailed information pertaining to Docks asset condition, flood risk management issues, and budgetary expenditure pressures. Take a major role in organising and implementing negotiations, budget allocation and project management.
·Ensure that the 'Engineering' Element of the City Docks budget is kept within the limits defined and set in agreement with the head of Facilities Management. Carry out the procurement and purchasing of contract services, technically goods, equipment and consumables and maintain an effective storage and stock control system for raw materials, consumable and spare parts.
