Job description

We are currently seeking a Housing Reviews Officer to join a dynamic housing team and provide expert statutory review services under Part 6 and 7 of the Housing Act 1996. You will be responsible for carrying out thorough investigations and producing legally robust review decisions within statutory timeframes. Your work will directly contribute to ensuring fairness and compliance in housing decision-making, while supporting vulnerable residents across the borough.

This role requires both legal expertise and the ability to deliver high-quality, customer-focused outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
 
Key Responsibilities
·Carry out s202 reviews and suitability assessments in accordance with housing legislation, case law, and policy.
·Issue legally sound decisions within statutory timeframes.
·Respond to legal challenges, including threats of judicial review and appeals.
·Liaise with legal counsel and represent the authority in County Court and related proceedings.
·Provide expert advice and guidance to housing officers and stakeholders on complex housing issues.
·Support continuous improvement of the housing service through data analysis, training, mentoring and procedural updates.
·Make decisions regarding interim accommodation in line with case law.
·Ensure proper recording, data protection, and case file redactions for SARs and legal requests.
 
About You
·Extensive knowledge of housing legislation, including the Housing Act 1996 (Parts 6 & 7), Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, and related case law.
·Proven experience carrying out s202 reviews and drafting detailed, legally compliant decisions.
·Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to work sensitively with vulnerable applicants and legal representatives.
·Experience working independently to manage caseloads, deadlines, and priorities.
·Ability to represent the authority in court and liaise with legal teams.
·Experience mentoring and coaching housing teams on statutory duties and legal compliance.
·IT literate and experienced in using case management systems effectively.
