Job description

Are you passionate about making a difference in people's lives and preventing homelessness before it happens? A dynamic South London local authority is seeking a dedicated Homeless Prevention Visiting Officer to join their Housing Solutions team.

In this vital frontline role, you will work directly with residents at risk of losing their homes - undertaking home visits to assess needs, understand individual circumstances, and deliver creative, person-centred solutions to prevent homelessness. You'll carry out detailed housing needs assessments and develop personalised housing plans in line with the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, associated guidance, and best practice.

You'll manage a varied and often complex caseload, providing expert advice, advocacy, negotiation, and mediation to help residents sustain their housing. Where prevention or relief isn't possible, you'll assess homelessness applications under Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 and communicate outcomes clearly and sensitively.

The ideal candidate will have:
·A solid understanding of housing and homelessness legislation, housing management, and allocations.
·Broad knowledge of the housing and support needs of homeless individuals, applicants, and tenants.
·Proven experience working with diverse and vulnerable clients in a housing or homelessness environment.
·The ability to work effectively under pressure within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver a high-quality service.
·Experience achieving performance targets, handling public enquiries and complaints, and providing accurate housing advice.
