Job description

Highway Safety Inspector
 
 Key accountabilities:
·Undertake driven, walked or cycled highway safety inspections in line with Staffordshire County Councils Highway Safety Inspection Code or Practice and all associated procedures and policies.
·Propose remedial actions and initial identification of traffic management requirements for defects and safety risks.
·Liaise with operational staff to ensure planning, operations and works are safely completed in the required timescale and the required specification.
·Deal with customer requests and complaints in a timely and professional manner giving accurate information to all relevant interested parties and stakeholders including inspection and enforcement of controls on the network such as overgrown hedges, encroachment, and obstructions.
·Represent the Authority in court and at other hearings and meetings to explain procedures and your actions.
·Collate and check all required supporting documentation (e.g., Inspection records, repair records, customer enquiries, utility records) for each claim.
 
Criteria:
·NRSWA Supervisors Card and LANTRA 12D (M7) or equivalent.
·Highway Safety Inspectors Training (IHE approved syllabus).
·Previous experience of carrying out highway safety inspections on local road networks.
·Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 356 and safety inspection systems such as CONFIRM.
·An awareness of appropriate industry knowledge with reference to specifications for highway maintenance works, the Traffic Signs Manual, and Safety at Street Works and Road Works Code of Practice.
·Ability to manage and prioritise workload.
·Effective interpersonal skills and able to interact effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
·Effective verbal and written communication skills.
·Ability to influence and persuade.
·Full clean UK driving licence.
