Job description

My client are a large Civil Engineering contractor working in the Utilities Sector. They have a huge presence within Telecommunications. Their main area of expertise is the installation of Fibre Networks for large IPS's across the UK and they are a tier 1 contractor for several FTTx projects.
 
They are currently recruiting for a Head of IT, to develop and implement an IT strategy for the group. You will be coming in on a fixed term basis to bring your specialist knowledge to the group and deliver new procedures to help the organisation adapt and grow. You will be accountable for the design of the IT road maps and delivering / maintaining the IT infrastructure. You will have full freedom to do this in the best way you see fit.
 
Responsibilities:
 
·Devise the department budget
·Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to understand the department plans
·Provide the business with meaningful insights on the capabilities of your IT department
·Devise an L&D strategy and roll out for the company
·Implement and maintain change management strategies
·Lead the IT support & development
·Manage multiple projects and engage with all key stakeholders
·Play a leading role in project groups where IT requirements need to be considered
·Ensure all work is done in a timely and safe manner
 
Skills and qualifications:
 
·Strong leaderships skills with the ability to effect change
·Proven track record of defining and delivering an IT strategy and roadmap within a fast paced, growing company and leading IT transformation.
·Ability to manage an IT function at a senior level and continually improve the output of the department.
·Good commercial awareness and excellent business partnering skills in order to ensure an effective IT function that supports delivery of business objectives
·Solid technical background with extensive exposure and experience of SQL, Excel VBA and Access - systems and databases
·Extensive knowledge of network infrastructures, application architectures, web technologies and security infrastructures and architectures.
·Good understanding of legislation compliance and data security practices.
·Proactive and hands on - able to identify issues before they arise and must be ready to dive into technical details to oversee issues.
·Positive 'can do' attitude. Ability to excel under pressure and adopt effective problem solving skills to create innovative solutions.
·Ability to effectively manage a team, knowing when to lead, when to coach and when to delegate.  
·Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate complex IT concepts to non-technical colleagues in a simple fashion.
·Solution driven with a focus on providing outstanding customer service.
·Ability to provide and adhere to project governance and processes.
·Relevant degree at 2:1 or above, for example, Bachelor of Engineering/Computer & Network Security.
·ITIL
·5+ years of previous experience within technical support and development is essential.
·A good knowledge of best practice project management tools and techniques (PRINCE2 / APM etc.).
 
The role is on a 3 month + basis and  would be paying between £400 and £500 per day
