Engineering Manager

  • Contract Length: 18 Months
  • Location: Reading 5x per week
  • Rate: £60 Per Hour Inside IR35

Overview
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead and manage a technical team within a highly regulated defence project in the UK. This role will act as the key leadership point of contact, ensuring the delivery of critical engineering capability aligned with current and future programme requirements. You will play a pivotal role in delivering the integrated technical programme, ensuring engineering excellence, compliance, and operational efficiency.

Key Accountabilities
·Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing engineering team to deliver both team and individual objectives safely and securely.
·Oversee performance management, ensuring staff are assessed against objectives and implementing corrective actions where required.
·Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise within your engineering discipline.
·Maintain and promote the highest standards in environment, safety, health, security, and quality (ESHQ).
·Deploy and manage engineering resources effectively across multiple disciplines and projects.
·Ensure all engineering personnel are competent, capable, and appropriately assessed, in line with company processes.
·Foster an inclusive, engaging team environment, encouraging continuous improvement and professional development.
·Ensure full compliance with Licence Conditions, regulatory requirements, and organisational governance frameworks.

Key Responsibilities
·Lead the delivery of engineering activities, ensuring the programme is executed in a safe, secure, and efficient manner.
·Manage and influence key stakeholders, supporting effective decision-making and programme delivery.
·Ensure accurate configuration management of all engineering deliverables.
·Provide an agile engineering capability, ensuring resources and skills are aligned with evolving programme demands.

Experience
·Proven experience leading engineering teams within infrastructure or highly regulated environments
·Strong background in technical design reviews and engineering governance
·Demonstrable experience in stakeholder management across complex programmes
·Strong understanding of regulatory compliance, assurance processes, and engineering standards
·Background in construction, utilities, or major infrastructure programmes (Desired)
·Experience within nuclear, defence, or other high-hazard environments (Desired)
·Understanding of configuration management and design assurance processes (Desired)
·Civil Engineering or relevant technical qualification (Desired)
