Job description

An opportunity has arisen at a National Engineering organisationfor an experienced communications professional to provide, short term, both internal and external communications. The individual will play a key role in the development of internal and external communications, delivering both print and online communications material. The role includes media relations and marketing communications activities. Strong writing skills are a pre-requisite for this role.
 
Duties include:
 
·Providing content for - and contributing to the development of - the intranet, external website and social media activities, in relation to UK-wide subject areas
·Developing and providing content for UK-level employee newsletters and external facing publications
·Proactively managing the relationship with target media contacts, creating press releases and identifying media opportunities
·Event management - both internal and external
·Ensuring brand guidelines are followed in all communications
·Working with the in-house creative services team to oversee delivery of communications material
·Developing robust relationships with senior managers and within identified business areas
 
The successful candidate will have direct experience of working within an in-house communications function or communications agency. A relevant degree or equivalent in journalism, marketing, public relations or a writing-based discipline is an advantage, as is experience of the construction sector. The individual will need to have the following skills:
 
·Ability to undertake and oversee the three broad requirements for a good communications manager:
- the insight and experience to be able to 'unpack' a problem or challenge and break it down into its constituent parts
- the ideas needed to develop creative solutions
- the appropriate project management skills to ensure successful product/service delivery
·Ability to write in a well-structured, purposeful manner for a wide range of media, including the company magazines (internal and external facing), intranet, social media and press releases
·Outgoing and enthusiastic relationship builder, well respected by peers and managers
·A team player, willing to get involved in other aspects of the Communications department's activities and support colleagues
·Understands the principles associated with activities such as graphic design, web design, print production and management, video production, media relations, social media, events and crisis management
·Has the ability to lead and deliver a number of projects running concurrently
 
This is a rolling contract with the potential for long term status with the rates at £240.14 (Umbrella) or £191.97 (PAYE)
