Job Title: Commercial Director - Highways and Civil Engineering

Position Overview:
This pivotal position has arisen as our company embarks on expansion into new sectors and undertakes larger contracts. We are seeking an adept commercial professional to spearhead this growth by implementing robust systems and processes to enhance our team's capabilities. As the appointed Commercial Director, you will lead our existing commercial team while also taking on the responsibility of recruiting new talent to manage the escalating workload.
 
Your role will be multifaceted, encompassing strategic leadership to drive our commercial agenda forward and ensure seamless project delivery. You will play a crucial part in shaping our organisational structure, fostering a culture of excellence, and positioning us for sustained success in the competitive marketplace.
Key Responsibilities:
 
Develop and implement a comprehensive commercial strategy aligned with the company's objectives, focusing on growth opportunities within the Highways and Civil Engineering sector.
Lead negotiations for major contracts, ensuring favourable terms and conditions while mitigating risks. Oversee contract management processes to ensure compliance and maximize profitability.
Manage project budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting, providing strategic insights to optimize financial performance and drive revenue growth.
Cultivate strong relationships with key clients, understanding their needs and expectations to deliver tailored solutions and secure repeat business.
Lead the bid management process for new projects, collaborating with internal teams to develop competitive proposals that showcase our expertise and capabilities.
Provide leadership and guidance to the commercial team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence. Mentor team members to support their professional growth and development.
Identify and mitigate commercial risks throughout project lifecycles, implementing proactive measures to safeguard profitability and reputation.
 
Qualifications and Experience:
 
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
Proven track record of success in a senior commercial role within the Highways and Civil Engineering sector.
Extensive experience in contract negotiation, bid management, and financial management.
Strong understanding of commercial principles, risk management, and project delivery processes.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively at all levels.
Strategic thinker with a results-driven mindset and a passion for driving business growth.
Membership of relevant professional bodies (e.g., RICS, CIOB) is advantageous.
