Job description
Civil Engineer
This is a great opportunity for a Civil Engineer to combine technical variety, long-term progression and genuine work-life balance. This role gives you the chance to work on large-scale developments while continuing to build your skills and confidence as a development infrastructure professional.
As a Civil Engineer, you will be involved in projects that genuinely shape communities, from early feasibility through to construction. You will gain exposure to complex residential-led schemes, work alongside experienced engineers and specialists, and enjoy a flexible working approach that supports your life outside work as well as your career ambitions.
You will be joining a well-established infrastructure team working predominantly on large residential developments, alongside selected industrial, commercial and energy projects. Residential schemes typically range from around 100 units to several thousand dwellings. The team specialises in drainage, highways and development infrastructure, working closely with transport and flood risk professionals to deliver fully coordinated designs.
This Civil Engineer role is based in Kent and is primarily office based, with the option to work from home on some days by agreement. You will be doing the following as part of your role:
·Supporting Senior and Principal Engineers with technical design work across a range of development projects
·Taking responsibility for delivering your work within agreed budgets and timescales
·Guiding and supporting junior engineers, checking work and helping maintain high technical standards
·Reviewing drawings and calculations to ensure compliance with design standards and QA procedures
·Contributing to drainage, highways and infrastructure designs from feasibility through to construction
To succeed in this Civil Engineer position, you will ideally have:
·Consultancy experience on development infrastructure projects, particularly residential schemes
·A strong understanding of Sewer Sector Guidance, Building Regulations, DMRB and CIRIA C753
·Working knowledge of MicroDrainage/Flow and AutoCAD, with Civil 3D and/or Site 3D being advantageous
·Experience at pre-planning, planning and detailed design stages, including S104, S38 and S278 approvals
·A proactive approach, strong communication skills and a clear desire to continue developing as an Engineer
As a Civil Engineer, you will be directly involved in, and at times coordinating, the following:
·Developing concept and detailed drainage strategies
·Preparing levels strategies and earthworks appraisals
·Producing planning documentation such as Flood Risk Assessments, Drainage Technical Notes and Utilities Statements
·Undertaking due diligence reviews to support land acquisition
·Producing detailed design and construction drawings
·Securing technical approvals for S104, S38, S278 and associated agreements
The salary for this Civil Engineer role is dependent on experience. You will also benefit from flexible working arrangements, exposure to major development projects and a supportive team environment focused on long-term career growth.
This Kent-based Civil Engineer role offers clear progression as your experience grows. You will be supported in developing your technical capability and confidence, with opportunities to take on more responsibility over time. The role is primarily office based, with agreed home working available.
