Job description
Chartered Bridge Manager:
We are seeking an experienced Bridges Manager to lead the inspection, maintenance, strengthening, and replacement of a significant portfolio of highway structures. This role plays a key part in ensuring the safety, performance, and long-term sustainability of bridges and associated assets.
You will provide technical leadership and oversight across a wide range of programmes delivered through external partners, while also supporting both routine and major infrastructure schemes with specialist structural input.
Key Responsibilities:
·Lead the delivery of annual bridge inspection programmes and structural maintenance activities.
·Manage strengthening and replacement programmes for bridge and structural assets.
·Oversee specialist and risk-based programmes addressing vulnerable or high-risk structures.
·Provide technical and project oversight to both routine maintenance and major infrastructure schemes.
·Act as the technical approval authority for structural proposals, including approvals in principle and consideration of departures from standard.
·Contribute specialist technical advice and coordination to the development and application of structures standards, specifications, and guidance.
·Manage structures budgets and oversee the procurement and delivery of works contracts.
·Ensure asset management systems, inspection records, as-built information, and health and safety documentation are maintained and up to date.
What We're Looking For:
·Significant experience in the management, inspection, maintenance, and improvement of bridges and highway structures.
·Strong technical background in structural engineering, with experience providing approval and assurance of structural designs.
·Proven experience managing programmes of work, budgets, and contracts within a highways or infrastructure environment.
·Experience overseeing externally delivered works and providing technical input across design, procurement, and construction stages.
·Ability to manage and coordinate specialist risk-based programmes for structural assets.
·Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to provide clear technical advice to a range of stakeholders.
·Experience working with asset management systems and maintaining accurate structural records.
·Chartered Engineer status either MICE or MIstructE
