Job description
A local authority in East London is seeking a motivated and organised Assistant Right to Buy Officer to support the delivery of its statutory Right to Buy (RTB) programme, enabling eligible tenants to purchase their council homes in accordance with the Housing Act 1985 (as amended).
Working within the Sales and Leasing Team, you will assist with processing applications, preparing sale documentation, and supporting the legal conveyancing process. This role requires strong administrative skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with tenants, internal teams, and external partners.
Key Responsibilities:
·Assist in processing Right to Buy applications, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and compliance with legislation.
·Support the preparation of sale offers and timely instruction of legal conveyancing tasks.
·Provide general advice and guidance to tenants on the Right to Buy process, both in person and via phone or written correspondence.
·Liaise with internal departments (e.g. Legal, Corporate Property, Landlord Services) and external agencies to verify application details.
·Maintain accurate data and assist in reporting on performance and compliance metrics.
·Support other low-cost home ownership schemes such as Shared Ownership staircasing, Rent to Mortgage, and Cash Incentive Schemes.
·Carry out home visits where required to verify tenant and property information.
·Assist with fraud prevention by providing relevant information to the council's investigation team.
·Provide general administrative support to the wider Sales and Leasing Team.
Requirements:
·Understanding of the Right to Buy scheme and Part V of the Housing Act 1985.
·Strong organisational and communication skills.
·Experience in a housing or local authority environment is desirable.
