Job description

My client is looking for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join their team based in Chelmsford. The Senior Engineer will be expected to show a high level of technical capability in the delivery of a
variety of projects for clients across the industry. These may be housebuilding, retail, commercial or
local authority for example. The role will initially require hands-on design, leading by example as the
team develops and grows under your management supported by the Regional Director.
 
The role will provide the technical support to the Regional Director to deliver the team tasks and
designs independently with Regional Director final approval of deliverables required in accordance with the QA processes.
The size and speed of any growth of the team will be determined by work winning. The aspiration is to grow the Chelmsford office to a size of approximately twenty with roughly a 50/50 split across transport planning and the infrastructure team.
 
The Senior Engineer will possess the necessary experience, knowledge and technical expertise to
technically lead each design and provide liaison with the client and local authority officer approving the design. They must be conversant in post planning detail design skills on Infrastructure schemes. Also they will need to understand and drive the delivery of utility works, including the diversionary works and review process.
 
The Senior Engineer will provide essential support to the Directors for certain management, marketing and administrative roles that are essential to the smooth running of the business. As the team grows they will act as direct line manager for a number of more junior personnel in relation to both general office and project-related management issues.
 
The role will require good communication skills, both oral and written, and an ability to present the findings of a project or to represent the interests of the company in public. Work winning will be driven by the Regional Director however the Senior Engineer will be expected to support this using their experience to market the capability of the company.
 
The key design skills will include delivery of the
following;
·-Highways Specification;
·-Detailed Horizontal Design;
·-Detailed Vertical Design (including cross
·sections and long sections, 3D modelling);
·-Detailed Pavement / Footway design;
·-Highway surface water drainage;
·-Signing & Lining;
·-Site clearance;
·-Setting out;
·-Signals;
·-Street lighting;
·-Kerbing, and Standard Construction Details.
·Ability to manage time and work to strict deadlines.
·Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
·Production of specification appendices and contract documentation
·Understanding all local and national design standards.
·Ability to supervise the work of more junior staff and sub-consultants.
·Ability to prepare fee proposals and project manage a commission from start to finish;
·Ability to liaise directly with client and with other consultants/suppliers.
