What we need
Carrington West are pleased to be assisting our client, a Tier1 highways and rail contractor, to find an experienced Design Manager to work with them based in the London area including some working from home with the candidate expected to travel intermittently to various project sites when required.
 
Our client works across the UK specialising within the Civil engineering sectors with a primary focus of Highways and Rail related projects.
 
A lot of the work will involve the Temporary Works associated with the sites our client are delivering their projects on.
 
What you will do
·Ensure that a satisfactory temporary works design is carried out.
·Ensure that a proper design brief has been produced, including those from subcontractors.
·Managing and coordinating interim and staged temporary arrangements.
·Make engineering decisions that will not be compromised by commercial, programme or other pressures.
·Being responsible for Technical Risk Management Plan (TRMP)
·Review and be familiar with all upcoming works
·Involvement with site planning meetings, reviewing Risk Assessment Method Statements (RAMS)
·Confirm that all temporary works and temporary conditions of permanent works have been identified, and that all temporary work is properly designed and planned for.
·Ensure that, where complex temporary works are split into several items on the TW Register, suitable design reviews are conducted, and checks are made on how the items interact and are co-ordinated.
·Ensure a Design Risk Assessment has been carried out and that any mitigation responses are known to all parties
 
What you will need to succeed
·Previous design manager experience within the industry
·A good understanding of BIM
·Understanding of the roles and responsibilities associated with the CDM Regulations.
·Understanding of how H&S risk should be managed during both the design and implementation stages of projects
·Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related field
·Temporary works design experience,
·Hold valid SMSTS
·Have TWC training CITB accredited
·CSCS card
·Driving licence
·Ideally chartered or working towards chartership
