My local authority client in Gloucestershire are in search for a permanent senior planning officer to join their busy planning department.
 
The Purpose of this role is to:
 
·To deputise for the Development & Enforcement Planning Manager & Major Developments & Appeals Manager (including in respect of the Strategic Housing Site)
·Provide technical expertise, advice and direction to internal and external customers when solving  problems or managing risks
·Apply a high level of expert knowledge within a technical area of expertise and manage sensitive, open ended and complex case or project based work#
Key Responsibilities:
1.To work in partnership with customers, Consultees and Council Members to ensure applications are in a condition to enable full and proper consideration/determination
2.To process, consider and negotiate on all applications in a timely manner, including Major and complex applications, reflecting the seniority of the position
3.To prepare decision notices and where necessary make robust, sound, and high quality recommendations and present reports to Committee meetings
4.Support, mentor and supervise junior members of the team
5.Use detailed, technical knowledge within the subject matter to objectively analyse situations and make decisions that meet the needs of all stakeholders with limited guidance and directionBe responsible for small projects or input into large projects
6.Maintain a detailed understanding of appropriate legislation, policy, procedure and guidelines and make informed assessments, advise stakeholders and take action
7.Ability to interpret and find solutions to ambiguous and partial information
8.Play an integral role in innovating products and continuously improving services
9.Act as a lead technical advisor within the relevant service area
10.Mentor and train colleagues
11.Carry out duties with discretion, integrity and maintain confidentiality
12.Deliver commitments and take ownership of own caseload, reshaping of plans to deliver required outcomes
13.Ensure that issues and problems are effectively mitigated and solutions developed which meet customer needs
14.Ensure all relevant customer and company information is captured and recorded accurately
15.Understand and demonstrate commitment in delivering the key performance indicators within the function
Essential Requirements, Qualifications and Skills:
·Hold a degree or Diploma in Town & Country Planning or relevant experience of five years
·GCSE Maths and English or equivalent to grade C/4 or higher
·Knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting Planning
·Planning Enforcement experience
·Experience of working flexibly as part of a team and collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders
·Experience in mentoring junior members of a team
