Quantity Surveyor

£55k - 65k per year

My client is a large infrastructure and utilities company who service the public and private sector. They are a leader in the Utilities / Highways sector working with some of the largest telecoms companies in the UK. They work on the design and installation of copper and fibre networks in all four corners of the country. They have been centralised in Cambridge for several years and still have the family run business vibe they started with.


They are currently looking for a Quantity Surveyor to join their telecoms department to work on several NEC3 option B contracts. My client works for several Network operators as a tier 1 contractor, they have several projects across the UK and are rapidly expanding to meet the requirements of the contracts they are picking up.


As a QS you will be responsible for:

  • Assist in the preparation of tender documents, contracts, budgets, bills of quantities and other documents
  • Produce the pricing and forecast the possible cost of the different materials required for the project
  • Measure the work done and value it, during and after the project lifecycle
  • Ensure all changes to the plans are recorded accurately and included in the billing for payment
  • Oversee procurement – Looking at the contractors and sub-contractors
  • Track the changed to the designs and adjust the budget accordingly
  • Liaise with the client and other bodies to check the work can be done within a reasonable budget
  • Read architectural drawings and have an application of construction process
  • Ensure you have an understanding of the laws and regulations around building law and civil construction
  • Run monthly P&L reports
  • Manage and oversee WIP
  • Commercially support Project Managers


Skills require:

  • Project management
  • Ability to run complex bids and multiple bids
  • Understanding of pricing, cost and profit
  • Basic understanding of contract language
  • NEC3
  • Excellent numerical and analystical skills, an ability to problem solve and make decisions


Qualifications required:


  • Degree educated (Desirable)
  • RICS certified
  • Background in Civil Engineering
  • Sub-Contractor background
