Our client, one of the largest Nuclear Consultancies in the world are seeking a Principle Electrical Engineer to support and manage the significant growth in its EC&I business focused on Nuclear New Build. In particular, the UK's roll out of Small Modular Reactors.
 
You will have a strong background in power station control and instrumentation Engineering. Candidates with experience in conventional power stations will be considered.
 
Although the role will offer flexible work options, Ideally the candidate will be based in North or North West of England, with the ability to work from offices in Blackburn, Derby or Warrington when required.
 
Role Duties
 
·Support programme development, Leadership and oversight of lower grades, generate technical solutions, manage technical risks and assist in production of estimates and programmes.
·Involvement in the full project life cycle from capture of requirements, providing design input for assemblies, systems and installations to ensure the design is safe, functionally adequate for the user defined technical specification and in line with the appropriate design codes. During the design process you shall consider the time & cost impact of the design decisions made, communicating any significant deviations to the project management team where commercial review is required.
·You will play a central technical role within project delivery and therefore will need to have good communication & technical management skills, to ensure that the interface with the Engineering and project manager is efficient & effective.
·As a Principal Engineer you must therefore be able to successfully lead presentations at design review meetings, which will include client representatives to a high standard.
·Set the required professional standard for the members of the Electrical team
·Adhere to all company and statutory H&S policies rules, regulations and laws.
·Clarify and agree project requirements at all levels.
·Contribute to the project delivery plan demonstrating strong technical and commercial awareness.
·Leadership and oversight of a control and instrumentation design team, providing tasks and targets for the work of lower grade staff.
·Produce technical solutions from customer requirements and initial concepts and lead/work with designers to provide optimal project solutions.
·Keep abreast of latest developments in the engineering arena especially with respect to the latest developments in technologies and techniques.
·Produce project deliverables in accordance with project requirements, current best practice, and to the relevant standards and procedures.
·Advise and direct the team on technical issues as necessary throughout the project lifecycle and ensure a coherent approach to project delivery is adopted.
·Adhere to the company Quality Management System (QMS) contribute to the development of the QMS and proactively enforce and monitor team compliance to the QMS.
·Ensure assigned work is delivered to agreed time scales, costs, and to the required quality.
·Assist with the preparation of estimates for projects or proposals.
·Contribute to the setting of department and personal (appraisal process) goals and objectives.
·Able to apply a systematic technical process to provide design input for assemblies and systems, ensuring any design is safe, fit for purpose, and meets the requirements placed upon it, whilst accounting for cost and time scales.
·Should have a good understanding of delegation, motivation, effective communication at all levels, objective setting, dealing with other people and teamwork.
·Always provide a good example of professional and logical approach to work to other, and particularly Junior members of staff.
·Will be capable of independent and autonomous work in the delivery of complex engineering.
·Shall be able to operate as a focal point for technical communications between Clients and Customers.
·Management of sub-contractors delivering specialist tasks.
 
Required Skills/Expereience
 
·Good interpersonal, communication and influencing skills.
·Experience of team and technical leadership of C&I Engineers and Designers
·In depth knowledge of Control and instrumentation for Power stations (e.g. nuclear or non- nuclear).
·Well versed in the application of appropriate engineering standards.
·Ability to develop processes and procedures to drive continuous improvement and efficiency.
·Knowledge and application of European and International Standards and C&I best practice.
·Be able to work with a high degree of independence using own initiative and motivation.
