Principal Ecologist
 
Our client is looking for a Principal Ecologist to join their expanding team in Stoke.
 
The successful candidate will have the chance to join a successful multidisciplinary consultancy, delivering solutions to challenging problems in the Mining and Minerals, Infrastructure and Energy, and Property and Development sectors. This role ideal for someone who is seeking to develop their career in ecological consultancy and is committed to seeking beneficial ecological solutions for development activities.
 
The ecology team currently have several exciting and existing upcoming projects. Within the team, ecologists work alongside several other environmental professionals, including planners, archaeologists, arboriculturist, landscape architects and engineers, meaning work remains varied and flexible.
 
Responsibilities of the role:
 
·Management of ecological elements of projects from inception to post-construction; being able to 'run with' a project from fee proposal to completion.
·Formulate and lead ecological surveys including for protected species and of freshwater/terrestrial habitats.
·Preparation of EcIAs, HRAs and Biodiversity Impact Assessments/Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments and technical review of a wide variety of colleague's reports.
·Maintaining and promoting high-quality client relationships.
·Designing mitigation schemes including licence applications for protected species.
·Assisting with the preparation of tenders and compiling fee quotations.
·Participating in the technical development of staff, coaching, and mentoring on technical issues.
 
Requirements of the role:
 
Experience in ecology, ideally in a consultancy setting, but other relevant experience would be considered.
·Detailed knowledge of UK and EC wildlife legislation, including experience of practical application of mitigation requirements for protected species.
·A minimum qualification of a BSc (Hons) in Ecology, or similar accredited course.
·Experience with BNG
·Consider yourself highly knowledgeable in at least one area of ecology.
·Excellent report writing and quality assurance skills.
·Experience in preparation of tenders and invoicing clients.
·Provide support, training and mentorship to junior and senior ecologists.
·A full driving licence.
·An adaptable and flexible approach to work, to meet demands at peak times.
·A protected species licence would be a distinct advantage, particularly for bats.
·Full member of CIEEM or capable of meeting this status.
