Job description

My clients' Highways Team in Leeds and Stockton offices is seeking an experienced Highways Design Technician to add to the team and strengthen their offering.
 
Responsibilities:
·You'll be responsible for establishing/ working to robust BIM management solutions that meet client ambitions and exceed their expectations.
·You'll be responsible for producing design documentation for highway schemes, including sketches, drawings, calculations, reports and specifications to programme and budget.
·You'll be responsible for integrating safety in your behaviours and outputs, delivering on our safety values for clients.
·You'll apply your highways design expertise for various multi-disciplinary projects in accordance with the Atkins Business Management System and in compliance with quality, safety and environmental standards.
·You'll derive design solutions by drawing upon your expertise and collaborating across the business, using your excellent analytical skills to solve engineering problems and applying your engineering judgement to appraise and recommend options.
·You'll stay abreast of industry developments and changes in standards; building excellent professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
 
Requirements:
·EngTech or Incorporated status and membership of the ICE or CIHT, or able to demonstrate a pathway to Incorporated status as part of your plan for this role.
·Experience of delivery for our key clients and an understanding of their requirements, e.g. Local Authorities, Highways England, Developers and/or Contractors.
·Experience of managing the work load of self and others.
·Able to demonstrate that you can contribute to design briefs and interpret these to deliver a suitable design, including an appreciation of safety considerations.
·Able to demonstrate knowledge of process standardisation and autonomy.
·Able to demonstrate that you are a resourceful problem solver and excellent communicator with commercial awareness.
·Able to demonstrate in-depth understanding of Bentley Microstation, Project Wise Explorer, AutoCAD and Civil 3D:
 
AutoCAD
·Capable of using software without supervision produce clear, BIM compliant drawings
 
Autodesk Vehicle Tracking
·Good understanding and practical experience of using the software efficiently and how vehicles are actually driven on road.
 
MicroStation 
·Good understanding of software as our projects often involve rail teams who only use MicroStation.
 
Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB)
·Knowledge of the Manual with a good understanding of  Volume 6 covering Road Geometry
·Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCHW)
·Knowledge of the Manual with a good understanding of  Volume 3 covering Highway Construction Details
 
Traffic Signs and Road Markings
·Knowledge of Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016 and its associated Chapters 1 to 8
 
Project Wise Explorer
·Capable of using the software unsupervised with a knowledge of the flow path to issue drawings and models.
 
BIM
·Able to produce BIM compliant drawing
