Highways Engineer
 
An opportunity has arisen for a Highway Engineer to assist the Highway and Development Infrastructure Team in the design of footway and carriageway maintenance and resurfacing schemes in Bedfordshire.
 
The main focus will be on the design of footway schemes £20k to £150k, to include site surveys and determining the most appropriate treatments, identifying and specifying minor civils works, marking up drawings for our CAD team, preparing Pre Construction Health and Safety Information, Bills of Quantities etc. for issue to our contractor for delivery.
 
Within our Engineering Services department, there are potential opportunities to work on other highway projects including carriageway resurfacing, integrated transport schemes such as zebra crossings, footway and cycleway improvements, traffic signs and road markings projects, junction improvements etc.
 
As the Highways Engineer you will be able to demonstrate:

·Essential - proven experience in the design of footway maintenance and resurfacing schemes.
·Essential - experience in site related duties.
·Desirable - experience in carriageway maintenance and resurfacing schemes.
·Desirable - experience in Integrated Transport works including highway improvements, walking and cycling infrastructure, road safety schemes.
·Some knowledge of Manual for Streets, DMRB, other national standards, best practice guidance, local standards etc.;
·Knowledge of the CDM regulations;
·Must be able to demonstrate the ability to work effectively and flexibly as part of a team and individually with a 'can do' approach to problems and issues.

Must be able to work in an agile way, predominantly from home, but must also able to travel around the area as required
 
Previous experience in Highways is essential for this role.
