What we need:
We are currently assisting our client a local authority based in the South East, to find a Highway Maintenance Engineer to join the authorities already busy Highway Maintenance department. You could be somebody currently working at Engineer level or perhaps an assistant Engineer looking to step up and begin running your own schemes.
 
What the job is for:
Working alongside the council's existing Planned and Reactive Maintenance team, in this job you will be responsible for the design and implementation of highway maintenance schemes on the public footway and carriageway throughout the region.
 
What your responsibilities will be:
As the Engineer you will be involved with the highway maintenance design so a previous background in design and ability to use AutoCAD would be essential to the post.
A lot of the work will be related to carriageway resurfacing so experience in this area would be beneficial. The position will involve occasional visits to the sites as well as liaising with councils existing Term Maintenance contractor who will be delivering the schemes.
 
The councils and what would ultimately be your responsibility, is to ensure the public highway in its entirety is acceptable from a health and safety point of view ensuring defects are being dealt with accordingly. All maintenance on the carriageway must adhere to necessary regulation and keep within the councils agreed plans and budgets.
 
What you will need to succeed:
·3 years post grad practical experience
·Current knowledge in Highway maintenance and legislation
·Previous Highways design experienced and AutoCAD user.
·A relevant Degree or qualification in Civil Engineering (or related qualification)
·Awareness and understanding of TMA 2004
·Report writing skills
·On site experience
