Head of PMO

Carrington West are please to be working on an exciting opportunity with our client, a forward-thinking Utilities contractor delivering a wide range of services across London and the South East of England.

They are looking for a Head of PMO to oversee and monitor projects to ensure that cost, quality, programme and efficiency are controlled and targets achieved as well as ensuring that projects adhere to best practices and leading standards for project management.

The role will be key to ensure the company develop and implement industry leading best practices to enable the successful delivery of programmes of works to key stakeholders across the business. Additionally the role will be to provide reports to clients and internal management in order to demonstrate current status and future plans, managing and addressing change as required.

Role Responsibilities:

  • To lead and develop the PMO within the organisation.
  • Developing and implementing strategies for the PMO to help the business meet and exceed its future plans and targets.
  • Provide functional management of project managers, project engineers, projects support and planning.
  • Development of the PMO as process and procedure owner.
  • Head up risk management functionality within the business.
  • Be responsible for improving project delivery, processes, systems and guidance.
  • Ensure the successful implementation of the PMO's strategy, responsibilities, services and deliverables.
  • Coordinate best practice and ensure lessons learned are logged and new processes developed.
  • Define and embed project control and governance.
  • Provide support to project planning, milestone management, scope management, resource forecasting; financial management; change management across the PMO
  • Prepare regular status reporting to both clients and internal stakeholders within all levels of the business.
  • Ensure efficient change control methods and process are utilised.

Experience & Skillset:

  • Previous experience of managing a PMO office or large projects encompassing PMO functionality.
  • Strong working knowledge of Capex project delivery.
  • Leadership / Management experience from a Senior PM role.
  • Experience and capability to achieve membership of the Association for Project Management.
  • Excellent relationship management skills.
  • Demonstrate full commitment to exceptional stakeholder relationship management.
  • Exemplary communication and reporting skills
  • Strong skills in creating and maintaining project plans, including risks, actions, issues, dependencies.
  • Previous demonstrable experience of successful programme and risk management.
  • Undertake training and coaching of PMO personnel.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in efficient Change Management methods.
  • Able to maintain and improve the PMO policies and procedures.
  • Ability to influence within a matrix structure.

Qualifications:

  • Degree level qualification in either leadership, engineering or management.
  • Previous experience in a regulated environment
  • Strong IT skills in Microsoft Office packages and Primavera.
  • Project Management Qualifications - Prince 2, APM.
  • APM existing membership preferable.
