Carrington West are working with RPOne powered by the Morson Group to support their client Rolls-Royce SMR (small modular reactor) in the recruitment of an Environmental Case Lead to join their team based out of Warrington or Derby.

The Post
The Environmental Case Lead is accountable for the overseeing completion of environmental assessments to support design justification of the SMR. They will be responsible for developing the environmental case delivery programme and ensuring that all environmental submissions meet the required level of quality and governance.
Reporting to the Environmental, Safety, Security and Safeguards (E3S) Case Manager, as the Environmental Case Lead you will play a key role in supporting the development of the UK SMR Power Station and the successful completion of the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) and the Environment Agency (EA) Generic Design Assessment (GDA) process.

Key Responsibilities
Own, develop and maintain the environmental case delivery programme as part of the overall GDA delivery programme.
Line manage and develop a team of direct reports capable of developing environmental submissions as required for the GDA encompassing the radiological and non-radiological leads.
Responsible for overseeing the completion of appropriate environmental assessments to support design justification.
Ensuring that the appropriate level of quality and governance is applied to environmental submissions.
Acting as an environmental Technical Authority and be able to represent the project at appropriate internal technical and project reviews and at external meetings with the regulator and other stakeholders.
Provide definitive advice in the development of BAT arguments.
Keeping up to date with developments in the nuclear industry and the work of the appropriate external industry groups in the UK and worldwide.
Working with the Nuclear safety case and Security Case Leads to develop an optimised and holistic case.
To work with the GDA PMO to plan and manage environmental case work to meet technical, budget and SMR programme requirements.

Qualifications and Experience
Qualified to degree level or equivalent in Engineering, Maths, Physics or related discipline, or have significant relevant industry experience.
Chartered or working towards Chartered status with a professional engineering or equivalent body.
Previous experience in developing and maintaining environmental cases to meet UK regulatory expectations.
Able to develop and advise on BAT arguments.
Experienced in the application of Radioactive Substances Regulations (RSR) Environmental Principles.
Have undertaken engagement with regulatory bodies.
Knowledge of radiological impact assessment tools and software.
Able to provide leadership and implementation of nuclear safety culture.
Experienced in ensuring documentation meets regulatory expectations and complies with modern national and international standards.
