UK Rail 2026: Bringing the Rail Industry Together

UK Rail 2026 was the inaugural rail networking event organised by global event management company Terrapinn, and held on 12-13th May in Brimingham. The Carrington West rail team have provided the following summary of the discussions and themes that were discussed with our clients and candidates on the day.

The overall sentiment across UK Rail 2026 was that the sector remains active and optimistic, particularly around long-term infrastructure and regeneration-led transport investment. HS2, TRU and light rail programmes continue to dominate discussion, although many contractors highlighted that a significant proportion of delivery is still being approached from a civils and earthworks perspective rather than traditional rail systems delivery. Interface management, programme coordination and maintaining delivery momentum across large multi-contractor environments were recurring themes throughout the event.

There was also a strong focus on regeneration and the wider economic impact of transport infrastructure. The Midland Metro Alliance in particular emphasised how tram and rail investment is increasingly being used as a catalyst for city redevelopment, private investment, and urban growth. Sustainability initiatives were another key talking point, with businesses showcasing innovative approaches around material reuse, lower-carbon construction methods, and circular economy principles across major projects.

From a market perspective, several businesses acknowledged ongoing pressure linked to public funding and political uncertainty, however the general view was that the long-term pipeline across rail, light rail and wider infrastructure remains strong. Networking, relationship building and supply chain collaboration also appear to be becoming increasingly important, particularly as companies position themselves for future framework opportunities and upcoming project awards across the UK rail sector.
