As the third week of lockdown ends, many people are now working from home, raising concerns around cyber security for many employers.
RTM spoke to Transport for London to learn how important cyber security is during these unprecedented times.
Transport for London’s Interim Chief Information Security Officer, Robert Orr, told us: “Managing the cyber security risks to TfL is essential at all times, not just now.
“TfL operates a large and complex technology estate. That technology enables London’s key workers to get to and from their critical duties. So, we are indirectly supporting our national effort during the coronavirus outbreak and are committed to keeping London moving.”
He also said that TfL have undertaken numerous appropriate and proportionate measures to highlight any changes both to general and specific cyber threats they may face, such as coronavirus-related phishing attacks, and to identify any new vulnerabilities in our usage of technology.
“We have carefully considered our exposure to those changing threats, particularly as many more of our staff, contractors and suppliers work from home.”
He said they have also increased a number of protective and detective cyber security risk controls on their technology infrastructure. Their Cyber Security and Incident Response Team and Cyber Security Operations Centre are working with a number of leading partners in the commercial secure to ensure that TfL is well-prepared to respond and recover from potential cyber-attacks.
Mr Orr also said: “The coronavirus outbreak has brought a paradigm shift in the way people view TfL. Our critical role, not just in keeping London moving and enabling the UK economy, but in currently providing the vital transport that gets key workers – such as the wonderful NHS staff – to and from their places of work really puts our critical enabling role into focus.”
